Jesus is Arrested and Taken to the Sanhedrin

9th century
Fresco
Convent Church of St. John the Baptist, Müstair, Switzerland

The fresco illustrates Matthew 26:57, "they holding Jesus led him to Caiphas the high priest, where the scribes and the ancients were assembled." "They" means the crowd that came to arrest Jesus, but the fresco pictures only one of their number, and "the high priest" is suggested by the elaborate door on the right.
